Icknield Community College is a successful comprehensive school at the heart of its local community. From its foundation in 1957, Icknield has provided secondary education for students in Watlington and the surrounding villages, including those in Buckinghamshire. The focus of our school has always been to provide excellent teaching that meets the needs of every individual.
We are a mixed school for students aged 11 to 16. Our vision, encapsulated by our motto, ‘Excellence for All’, is to ensure that all students achieve their full potential in an institution that is the first-choice school in its community. Our achievements in recent years have been recognised by two successful Ofsted inspections (2015, 2019). According to all the main indicators, Icknield students routinely attain GCSE results that exceed national benchmarks.
Every child at Icknield has a laptop computer to use at home and in the classroom, enabling a wide range of authentic and exciting approaches to be taken across our broad curriculum. Our 800 students benefit from a full suite of arts subjects, and the vast majority study a modern foreign language to GCSE. We offer a full programme of extra-curricular activities, which includes many sports clubs, musical ensembles and other opportunities.
Since joining the Acer Trust at its foundation in 2017, Icknield has benefited from close collaboration with other member schools. Collaboration at leadership team level has enabled wide-ranging learning to be shared, and many of our subject leaders have been involved effectively in the Trust’s peer review processes. Icknield students have benefited directly from involvement in events such as the Trust’s annual public speaking competition.
